History of California
Shelf by nono umasy
California's rich history begins with its indigenous peoples, including the Native American tribes such as the Chumash and Ohlone, who inhabited the region for thousands of years. In 1769, Spanish explorers led by Gaspar de Portolá began the colonization of California, establishing missions and presidios. Mexican rule followed in the early 19th century until the Mexican-American War led to California becoming part of the United States in 1848. The Gold Rush of 1849 brought a massive influx of settlers, transforming the state into a bustling hub of economic activity. Over the years, California has played a pivotal role in various industries, from agriculture and entertainment to technology, solidifying its status as a diverse and influential state with a storied past.
