History of Estonia

Shelf by nono umasy
Estonia, located in Northern Europe, has a history shaped by various powers. Inhabited since ancient times, it was ruled by Teutonic knights, Danes, Swedes, and Russians from the 13th century onwards. After a brief independence following World War I (1918-1940), Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union, then Nazi Germany during World War II, and later annexed into the USSR until it regained independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then, Estonia has become a democratic republic, joined the European Union and NATO, and is known for its digital advancements.
