History of Kazakhstan
Shelf by nono umasy
Kazakhstan's history spans thousands of years, marked by the rise and fall of nomadic empires and the Silk Road's influence. In ancient times, it was inhabited by Scythian and Turkic tribes before becoming part of powerful empires like the Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan in the 13th century. The region later fell under Kazakh Khanates in the 15th century, which were fragmented by internal conflicts and external pressures. By the 19th century, Kazakhstan was gradually annexed by the Russian Empire, and after the 1917 Russian Revolution, it became part of the Soviet Union as the Kazakh SSR in 1936. During Soviet rule, the country underwent forced collectivization, industrialization, and nuclear testing, leading to significant social and environmental challenges. Kazakhstan declared independence in 1991 after the Soviet Union's collapse, emerging as the world's largest landlocked country and a key economic and geopolitical player in Central Asia.
