History of Norway
Shelf by nono umasy
Norway's history spans from its early settlement by Scandinavian peoples in the late Stone Age to its Viking Age prominence between the 8th and 11th centuries, marked by exploration, trade, and raids across Europe. After unification under King Harald Fairhair in the 9th century, Norway became part of the Kalmar Union with Denmark and Sweden in 1397. Norway remained under Danish rule until 1814, when it briefly gained independence before entering a union with Sweden. Full independence came in 1905. During World War II, Norway was occupied by Nazi Germany. Post-war, Norway became a founding member of NATO and developed into a prosperous, oil-rich welfare state.
