History of Peru

Shelf by nono umasy
Peru's history spans thousands of years, beginning with advanced pre-Columbian civilizations like the Norte Chico, the Moche, and the Nazca, which laid the foundations for the Inca Empire, the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. The Incas, centered in Cusco, created a sophisticated society with remarkable achievements in architecture, agriculture, and governance until their conquest by Spanish forces led by Francisco Pizarro in 1532 CE. Under Spanish rule, Peru became a vital colony, rich in silver and gold, and was part of the Viceroyalty of Peru. After years of struggle, Peru declared independence in 1821 CE, led by figures like José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar. Modern Peru has experienced periods of political instability, economic challenges, and cultural revival, preserving its indigenous heritage while integrating global influences.
