History of Scotland

The history of Scotland is marked by its rich cultural heritage and political struggles. From the ancient Celtic tribes and the Picts to the Roman invasions, Scotland developed a unique identity. In the early Middle Ages, the Kingdom of Alba emerged, eventually unifying with other regions. The Wars of Scottish Independence against England in the 13th and 14th centuries, featuring figures like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, solidified Scotland's national identity. The 1707 Act of Union with England created the Kingdom of Great Britain, though Scotland retained distinct legal and educational systems. The 20th and 21st centuries have seen a resurgence of Scottish nationalism, culminating in the establishment of the devolved Scottish Parliament in 1999.
