History of Sweden
Shelf by nono umasy
Sweden's history traces back to prehistoric times, but it became a unified kingdom in the 12th century CE. During the Middle Ages, Sweden was part of the Kalmar Union with Denmark and Norway but gained full independence in 1523 under King Gustav I. In the 17th century, Sweden emerged as a major European power, controlling parts of modern-day Finland, Russia, and the Baltic region. However, it lost much of its territory after the Great Northern War (1700–1721). Sweden remained neutral during both World Wars and has since developed into a prosperous, democratic nation with a strong welfare state.
