History of Taiwan
Shelf by nono umasy
The history of Taiwan is a complex tapestry of indigenous cultures and waves of colonization. It was originally inhabited by Austronesian-speaking peoples, but in the 17th century, the Dutch and later the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty ruled the island. Japan took control in the late 19th century, and Taiwan remained under Japanese rule until the end of World War II. After the war, Taiwan was placed under the administrative control of the Republic of China. However, in the mid-20th century, the island underwent significant political and economic transformations, ultimately emerging as a thriving democratic society with a unique cultural identity. Today, Taiwan stands as a vibrant nation with a rich history that continues to shape its dynamic present.
