History of Iraq

Shelf by nono umasy
The history of Iraq is a rich tapestry that spans millennia, with its roots dating back to ancient Mesopotamia, one of the world's earliest civilizations. Over the centuries, the region witnessed the rise and fall of numerous empires, including the Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians. In the 7th century, Islam was introduced, leading to the emergence of the Abbasid Caliphate and the city of Baghdad as a major center of learning and culture during the Islamic Golden Age. Iraq later became part of the Ottoman Empire until World War I, when it came under British control. In 1932, Iraq gained independence and experienced periods of political instability, including the Ba'ath Party's rise to power and Saddam Hussein's authoritarian rule. The 21st century brought significant challenges, such as the 2003 US-led invasion and subsequent conflict, shaping Iraq's modern history. Today, Iraq continues to grapple with complex socio-political dynamics and strives for stability and prosperity.
